Directions to local Towns, Villages and Supermarkets

Guern - The village of Guern is the closest village to the hamlet of Locrio and contains the local bread shop serving a wide range of French sticks, croissants and pastrys. Guern also contains a church, payphone (to the right of the church) and a few bars. Just before entering Guern you will find some fishing lakes on the left hand side of the road as well as a small childrens play area. After driving out to the road that runs past Locrio, turn left and travel over the river La Sarre and up the hill to the main road. At the main road turn right and continue for approx 1 mile to reach Guern.

Guemene-sur-Scoff - About 6 miles away Guemene is larger than Guern and contains the nearest Supermarket (a small one) as well as various shops and bars. As before go left out of Locrio over La Sarre and up the hill to the main road. At the main road turn left and continue on this road until you get to a T-junction. At the T-junction turn left towards Guemene. At the traffic calming style road kerbing you will want to turn left into Guemene as the road passes around the town. It is likely you will have passed Guemene on your way to the cottage from the ferry.

Pontivy - Pontivy is the nearest large town and as such has everything you would expect from a large town, from Supermarkets, shops and restaurants to the local "Armorie"! After travelling out of Locrio and turning left over "La Sarre" to the main road, you need to turn right towards Guern but then just 50 or so yards down the road take the first left you see. Continue on this road following it through the French countyside and through a few small villages for approx 15 minutes whereupon it should take you to a junction beyond which you will see the river and Pontivy beyond that. The best route is to turn right at the junction (when you can see the river) and then at the next juntion (a mini roundabout) turn left and travel across the bridge and follow the road right after the bridge, which will again take you to a smal roundabout. You then have 2 options. You can turn left at the roundabout and this will take you down the main "High Street" of Pontivy where you will find shops and parking, or continue straight forwards towards the large Supermarkets.

Supermarkets
-
After going over the roundabout mentioned above in Pontivy you will find the large Supermarkets. On your right you will see "Lidl" which is similar to the UK and often has good cheap wine but if you see some wine you like its advisable to buy it there and then as theres no guarantee they will have the same stock next visit. Also on the right just after "Lidl" is "Netto". Netto is another cheaper Supermarket which is often very good for cheap wine and beer and also if you like buying food in bulk! Lastly after coming to McDonalds on your right and another roundabout turn left then right into the entrance of "Intermarche". This Supermarket is the equivalent of Sainsburys or Tescos and has a wide variety of produce and goods including fish and meat counters, bakery, vegetables and even clothes. Intermarche is where we most reccomend for doing the "weekly shop".

Trolleys at most Supermarkets cost 1 Euro (returnable) so its advisable to keep a Euro or two spare in the car for shopping trips. Plastic carrier bags are also charged for in France and you will not be given any at check outs unless you specifically ask for them. As such we keep a selection of carrier bags in the cottage for our guests to use at the Supermarkets.
